I am interested in ways of presenting organic chemistry that ease the struggle many students encounter in these courses.

I feel one of the greatest challenges to students when they encounter courses centered on complex problem solving is developing integrated conceptual knowledge that can be used flexibly and fast to solve such problems. Many students have not taken courses that require such skills, but, once developed these skills can be modified for use in many courses and disciplines.

My personal focus is on trying to mentor students' transitions from novice thinking patterns to more expert patterns. This transition requires the development of in-class and out of class content and presentation that model the way experts arrange and relate facts and concepts.
